PANS/PANDAS Legislative News
There is a concerted effort across several states to get legislation passed to mandate insurance coverage for PANS/PANDAS. There are several obstacles including measures put in place to make new mandates difficult to pass. It is important to keep discussing PANS with your local representatives; if it is important to you then it should be important to them.
Advocate for PANS/PANDAS Awareness and Education
It is important to inform policy makers about this vital health issue. Your story is the most important tool you have as a PANS/PANDAS advocate. It helps to forge a personal connection. Use these helpful tips to better articulate your story to elected officials in a clear and powerful manner.
- Be brief and speak plainly. Avoid medical or policy terms.
- Speak honestly and from the heart. Tap into their emotions and pull on their heartstrings a bit.
- Discuss the benefits to your proposal. How will real people benefit from this measure?
- Keep them invested. Include details that accurately put your proposal in motion.
- Maintain a relationship. Thank them for their time and continue to follow-up.

SB15 was voted out of committee. Unfortunately it was recommitted and will be not voted on by the General Assembly.
